Very excited to share Emily Elizabeth Jewelry with you today. I love dainty, girly pieces of jewelry... something that seems like a little collectors item... and Emily's pieces are the perfect addition. I love all the intricate details and the fact that each piece is priced so that everyone can afford something. You can even order in different metal types, like rose gold. I really like her gorgeous headbands seen over at Moderne Press recently too.
Lucky for you, Emily is giving away one of her Mini Sweet & Pretty bow necklaces. All you have to do is pop over to the Emily Elizabeth Jewelry site and then leave a comment below. A winner will be chosen next Tuesday. Now on to the interview!
How did you first become interested in jewelry design?
I first became interested in jewelry design when I was a little girl. There are many photos of me totally dolled up - 80's style. As my love for accessories grew, my desire to create my own designs grew.
What's the process involved in making each piece?
I usually gather a bunch of various materials and than begin to create freestyle. No sketches, no major edits. I work and create pieces that feel right to me.
Where do you get inspiration from?
How I feel in my personal life and the season are probably the two most inspirational factors in the type of piece I create. I'm also sometimes inspired by magazine clippings – or sometimes I'll take an outfit that I like and design the jewelry I could see accessorizing that particular outfit.
How do you like running your own business?
Running my own business is great because it allows me to have a lot of freedom! It’s also scary because you're responsible for getting everything done. (But since you're your own boss, you can't get fired!)
What's you favourite item of clothing?
My favorite piece is a a handmade custom made leather belt stamped with a song lyric and a large vintage belt buckle I found on eBay!
Is there a designer that inspires you?
I'm not inspired by a designer in particular, but I am inspired by store windows and displays. They inspire me to ask “What sort of earrings would I make to go with that dress?" or "What sort of necklace goes with the vibe that that display is depicting?" Because I live in New York City and happen to walk down 5th Ave almost everyday, I'm constantly seeing highly artistic, inspirational and frequently changed store windows all the time!
What do you love the best about your home?
My home has a very warm and welcoming vibe. It's a very homey, loved-in place where people always feel comfortable in. I think it's really important to create a good environment where you and your loved ones want to be and where you feel "at home".
