new years eve {sparkle + shine}...

The time has come to ring in the new year! I'm looking forward to dressing up and celebrating with my boyfriend over a lovely dinner and champagne to follow...

Thank you for spending 2009 with me here on Dress, Design & Decor and I can't wait to see what inspiration the new year has to offer the design world... i'm off! But not without a few links of course... Have a Happy New Year!

Holiday Reading Guide 2009...

Also, i'll be retiring the snow on my blog for this year starting tomorrow, but i'm sure it'll be back again next Christmas ;) Thanks for all your sweet comments about it!

Gold leaf, soft pink fur and pouffy skirts... all in the name of celebration of course... do you have your New Years outfit together yet?

pretty {girly}...

Isn't this just a perfectly pretty collection of images? I've been following the blog Beautiful Things to Share for a while now, and I just love all the super girly spaces she posts. I always thought it would be so fun to have another house to go all-out glam in, host sleepovers and have tea parties... isn't that a dreamy thought? Too fun.

{winding down} + new start, new resolutions...

Well... the year is finally winding down with 2009 coming to an end. I'm looking forward to a brand new year, which I like to think is a fresh start, along with new goals and the joy of springtime – it's the only thing that makes our long winter worth it really.

So now of course, the inevitable question... do you make New Year's Resolutions?

I'm not sure I always stick to all of mine... but I like to still write things down and think about what i'd like to try and accomplish in the next year. It's my crazy list-making personality! Below are some of mine, and I would love to hear yours as well...

1. I'm halfway through a design project i'd really like to get going within the next few months, and then I can share more about it with all of you! It's definitely at the top of my list...

2. I'd like to buy more local, healthy food. I know, everyone always has the "eat healthier" resolution, but it's so true... there's so many better things I could be having, and I really enjoyed going to the farmer's market this past summer. Local strawberries from the market are so much better than local strawberries from the grocery store – the difference still shocks me.

3. Sleep... and just enjoying the little things. Are you one of those night-owl people that randomly stay up late for no particular reason? Haha, that's me (I blame my crazy school hours from when I was in college). I need to get off that habit asap and head to dreamland at a regular time. I think being better rested will help in a lot of other areas too... I need to take sleep more seriously...

What are your resolutions?

P.S. Posting will be light over the next few days with New Years.

why don't you? {for new year's eve}...

Why don't you... go all out, with colourful sparkly eyes and adorned fingernails?

ribbons + rhinestones...

Loving these glamorous heels that are just perfect for a New Year's party... not to mention the sparkling necklace with a blue ribbon tie... so very girly, it definitely makes a statement... would you wear a necklace like this?

marie antoinette + that french blue...

I am so into all things Marie Antoinette (sophia coppola style) right now, along with that french grey-blue. It's such a soft, sophisticated colour. It grabs your attention, but doesn't overpower. It's definitely one of my favourites. I think you'll be seeing much more of this colour from me in the future... oh and I definitely wouldn't mind that bedroom – how regal!

look up...

Now this is a city hall worth getting married in... isn't that ceiling just gorgeous? They just don't make buildings like that anymore. Amazing...

guest post + a thank you...

What things make you happy? One of my favourites is Paris of course. I wish I had the opportunity to visit every year... even if it was in the winter. I mean, doesn't it just look magical? Along with Paris I have a few other favourites over at Sacramento Street today, where i'm guest posting 10 Things That Make Me Happy... which you can check out here – maybe some of my favourites are yours as well! And thank you Caitlin for having me!

Also, i'm very excited to be a part of Desire to Inspire's Holiday Reading Guide for 2009! They find so many wonderful blogs for their guide each year and I can't wait to take a peek through them all. Thank you Kim & Jo!

good monday morning...

Good monday morning! Back to reality for a few days... but I am all about the sparkle and shine till New Years. There's no better time for shimmering sequins, sparkling fabrics and all the glitter you can handle... it's New Years afterall! Do you have plans yet?

a *sweet* christmas eve surprise...

For a while now i've been coveting the perfect leather purse... one of those treasured items that you'll keep forever and ages beautifully... I first had my eye on J.Crew's Uptown and Gallery style bags... but when I came across COACH's Brooke bag I fell in love (previous post here). Well, guess what my super sweet boyfriend got me for Christmas? The Brooke bag in a beautiful taupe leather! I absolutely love it... the brass hardware goes perfect with it's lady-like handles and the lavender lining is so unexpected... i'm so excited! Thank you Rick xo.

sunday night + back home again...

Oh my, the holidays go by so quickly! It's Sunday night and i'm back home with Miley (who's extremely happy to be back in familiar surroundings sans stairs, lol). I've had way too many Christmas chocolates, chestnuts, and cookies, along with staying up and sleeping in late. It was so nice to have a few days off... although wishing I didn't have to work tomorrow... sigh...

How was your Christmas holiday? I hope it went well!

on the {12th} day of christmas + i'm off!...

On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me...
twelve drummers drumming...
eleven pipers piping...
ten lords a-leaping...
nine ladies dancing...
eight maids a-milking...
seven swans a-swimming...
six geese a-laying...
five golden rings...
four calling birds...
three french hens...
two turtle doves...
and a partridge in a pear tree!

Well, the Twelve Days of Christmas just flew by. Really, it feels like this whole year has flown by... it's amazing how quickly time passes. It's officially Christmas Eve and I am off to my home town later today. Excited to see my true love and hand out Christmas gifts!

I just want to say thanks to everyone who has stopped by this year, following, or left a comment... i've really enjoyed this whole blogging thing, and thanks for making it such a great year. I've "met" so many new people on here, through email or twitter chatter. For some the words "blog" or "twitter" is just another thing on the internet, but I am loving it! There's so much great inspiration to share, and I look forward to posting each day. So thanks! Next year is a whole new start and I plan on moving forward with a few projects i've been focusing on and of course... blogging away! Have a wonderful holiday! Back in a few days but here's some links to leave you with...

*And... i've been nominated for the Apartment Therapy "The Homies 2009". I would really appreciate it if you voted for me here, amongst your other favourites! (Thanks Kristin!)

P.S. How badly do you want that bed & canopy? I know I do!

sparkling chandeliers...

There's something about small-size chandeliers that is just so pretty. Maybe it's all the reflective glass pendants or that feminine look... but they look great in almost every situation - a little girls bedroom, a contemporary bathroom, your hallway entrance or even your bedside table as lamps. It's the perfect way to add a little glamour to any room... imagine one in a walk-in closet? Now that's a dressing room!

on the {11th} day of christmas...

On the eleventh day of Christmas, my true love sent to me...
eleven pipers piping...
ten lords a-leaping...
nine ladies dancing...
eight maids a-milking...
seven swans a-swimming...
six geese a-laying...
five golden rings...
four calling birds...
three french hens...
two turtle doves...
and a partridge in a pear tree...

Finally here, it's my last day before the holidays and I can't wait for all the treats and yummy food, gift giving, lazy mornings and sleeping in! Tomorrow is the last day of our countdown before Christmas and the New Year... is everyone ready? What are your plans for the holidays? Tonight i'm having coffee with the girls, and then it's off to my parent's and my boyfriend's for the next four days... I wonder if my kitty Miley knows were going on a trip? lol...

on the {10th} day of christmas...

On the tenth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me...
ten lords a-leaping...
nine ladies dancing...
eight maids a-milking...
seven swans a-swimming...
six geese a-laying...
five golden rings...
four calling birds...
three french hens...
two turtle doves...
and a partridge in a pear tree...

I love the centrepiece for this room. Christmasy and whimsical... it's great how they all gather together in the middle like that. All very dreamy, paired with a candlelight dinner and dresses adorned with sparkles and shine... 'tis the season for a little glitter, right?

casual chic...

Absolutely loving this look... the layers and layers of thin knits is just perfect.
