collectable keepsakes...

I love that the simpliest or oddest collections always seem to be the best ones, the kind that can incorporate old and new pieces... like a crystal jar full of off-white and mother-of-pearl buttons, or a more modern glass container with quite the collection of ivory-handle flatware! My Granny does a lot of knitting for babies and all the cousins when we were small, and she's always collecting pretty little buttons for cardigans. I think it'd be kind of fun to do the same with a special item you love and displaying in such a gorgeous way is definitely a must. Something small as well, making it even easier to display...

Things that come to mind...
Buttons
Stamps
Cutlery
Linens/Handkerchiefs
Charms
Cocktail rings
Sparkly brooches
Paper
Ribbon
Vintage Postcards/Photos
Sea glass/Shells/Pebbles
Teacups/Glasses
Milk Vases
Antique books
Wine corks...

Do you collect anything special?

What a great post! I love collecting things, and you have a great list there. The buttons are beautiful, especially in the glass container.
My husband is a major golf addict, and so to incorporate his "likes" into our house decor, I'm making him start to collect old golf balls for me to display in an old wire basket.

Amazing photo...
It's so true, if you take the time and patience to grow a collection, why not display it? You only need a fabulous glass vase... or two!

Love this way of displaying collections of things. I like to collect cards and paper stuffs...so a bulletin board is my way to store!

You've just given me the inspiration I need. I have lots of glass jars and lots of old junk jewellery. I feel a display coming on.

My parents collect matchbooks from restaurants and hotels around the world. They have matchbooks from their honeymoon in Italy over 30 years ago! I started doing the same when I studied abroad and put them in a clear glass bowl on my coffee table.

This makes me laugh because my husband has always collected sand and rocks from everywhere he goes. His bedside table was getting so full of ziplocs with sand from maui, jamaica, camping trips, ski trips, and pebbles from various places that I finally told him we MUST do something with them.

I got a ton of matching jars (similar to the ones in your post, but smaller) and filled them up with all his sands and rocks and put them on shelves. It finally feels like he has a nice "collection" instead of a pile, lol.

My problem is that I started collecting vintage jewelry and it is growing out of control. I'm out of room in my jewelry boxes and need to figure out a functional and asethetic solution, lol.

Love doing this!! I actually have one with wine corks {as we drink them along the way}, another one with rattan mini balls... in the guest bathroom I have one with a collection form all the hotel's shampoos, etc {only the ones that have cute packaging} and another one with beautiful white soaps with beautiful designs..!!
I love you cocktail ring idea, and the button one is to precious...I wonder if I have enough buttons to fill one?? Love this!

Everything I do is overdone, therefore, I must have a lot of collections. This is kind of a new/old way to display them, & it's very nice.

i love your ideas for collections! my sister collects pins — not as pretty or monochromatic as the buttons or utensils in your picture but quite fun to incorporate into her decor as she's still a teenager.

Morgan - Golf balls would look perfect in an old wire basket too... what a great idea!

Will - Yes! I have a huge collection of letterpress cards... I need to find a way to display those... or at least a nicer place to store them, than in my closet!

Carole - So happy to hear that! I bet that will be a beautiful collection to display...

Kirby - Oh my gosh! That is so cute and SUCH a great idea... wow!

Red Bungalow - Now that is an awesome solution! I bet he loves his collection even more now...

Sasha - My friend Amanda does that! She has a little trunk I think it is, full of wine corks... too cool!

Gintare - You should totally start something... I think i'm going to clear out some of my clutter and find some ideas... although I love the button jar... it's just so fun and reminds me of my Granny!

Design Dish - Perfume is always a fabulous collection! There's soooo many beautiful bottles out there, old and new!

Splenderosa - It'll be a great way to get organized!

Mackenzie - Oh I used to collect pins when I was younger too, lol... I think it streamed from collecting badges as a Brownie Girl! lol...

i collect shells in canning jars...i keep them in water because for whatever reason they look prettier that way!

i also have another jar full of dried flower petals going back a few years. every time my love brings me flowers i keep a couple of the petals in the jar. they keep their colors, too, because the canning jars seal up really well and dry them out!

This is a really great post. I really like how simple items can become a beautiful display. We keep all of our wine and champagne corks in a big glass vase on our table. Recently we started writing the date and occasion on them to make them even more meaningul.
